ath There is a math homework most nights Monday-Thursday. I try not to send homework on Fridays. Please check planners and homework folders nightly for homework. Complete fact practice sheet Monday-Thursday. Record score. Students turn in completed sheets on Friday. Spelling Practice weekly spelling words! Use Spelling Tic-tac-toe sheet or www.spellingcity.com for fun ways to practice. Quiz your child early in the week. Focus on the words that your child had difficulty with. The words have a weekly pattern to make it easier to remember the spelling of the words.
READ! READ! READ! The more students practice, the stronger they will become at reading. Second Grade students should be reading at least 20 minutes a night. Read and reread the leveled books that I sent home in your child's reading folder. Ask your child the questions that are in the folder to make sure they are thinking about what they are reading and making meaningful connections to the reading.
Complete 1 minute reading fluency sheet. Set the timer for 1 minute. Have your child read the leveled passage. When the timer stops, your child stops and marks where they ended and records the number of words at the bottom of the page. Parents need to initial this. Repeat this activity Monday-Thursday. Student need to turn their completed sheets in on Friday.
Useful Links Go to Useful links for extra fun academic games! We do these in class so your child should be able to show you some of their favorites. One thing we talk about is that it should be at your child's level. If it feels easy, then it isn't challenging enough and your child already has that skill mastered. It should feel challenging and make your child think. That means these are skills they are working on mastering. If they are getting frustrated, it is too hard and above your child's level.
